What we check first
  • Note which ear cup fails and how (silent, distorted, quiet) — isolates the driver side.
  • Check the Digital Crown for both rotation and the press — they're separate functions.
  • If the cushions are the only issue, they're magnetic and pop off / on — confirm whether it's just a cushion swap you need.
  • Note any moisture, condensation or ANC weirdness, especially after gym or cold-to-warm use — points to the known moisture issue rather than a dead driver.
Repair path

Workshop-level, typically 2–4 hours, and AirPods Max need full disassembly for anything internal because they're built tight. For a dead or distorted ear cup we open that side and repair or replace the driver and its connection. A collapsed battery is replaced internally. A stuck or unresponsive Digital Crown is cleaned and, if needed, the crown assembly replaced. The ear cushions are the easy one — they're magnetic, so we can swap worn or torn cushions in minutes without opening anything. Condensation and ANC issues from the known moisture problem are dried out and cleaned, and we check the mics and sensors that drive noise cancellation. As with all sealed Apple audio gear, the careful part is opening and re-closing without damage, and we test both drivers, the crown, ANC and battery before returning them. We tell you upfront which repairs are quick and cheap (cushions, a clean) versus more involved (driver, battery, board) so you can decide.

We test both sides, the crown and ANC after, so you get balanced sound back. Bring it in for a free diagnosis and we'll tell you whether it's a connection, the driver, or something cheaper.
Q.02Can you just replace the ear cushions on my AirPods Max?[+]
└─ Yes, and it's the quickest, cheapest fix we do on them — the cushions are magnetic, so worn or torn ones pop off and new ones attach in minutes, no disassembly needed.
