MacBook Pro M5 shipped in two waves: the base 14-inch M5 in October 2025, then the M5 Pro and M5 Max (14" and 16") in March 2026. By May 2026 the base M5 is around 7 months in market and the higher-tier units are just 2 months old. Externally identical to the M4 generation — same Liquid Retina XDR display, same chassis, same magnetic keyboard assembly — so the physical repair procedure carries over. What is different: M5 has a new GPU architecture with a Neural Accelerator in each core, and the logic board is laid out differently. Component-level board work and parts are NOT interchangeable with M4. At this age battery work is essentially zero, even on the heaviest use cohort — Apple's first-year cells haven't degraded. The intake is dominated by drop damage to the laminated XDR display (full assembly replacement, no glass-only path) and liquid spills from cafe/desk use. All liquid M5 Pro and M5 Max units route to Kepong HQ for Apple Silicon board treatment; we do not attempt to dry and power on. The M5 Max board is an extremely high-integration SoC — board-level micro-soldering on SoC-connected components is on the dedicated micro-solder bench at Kepong HQ. Display assembly on M5 Pro/Max (Liquid Retina XDR with ProMotion) remains a 24-hour job and parts must be confirmed available before the unit is booked in — at 2 months in market for the M5 Pro/Max, lead times are real.
