MacBook Air M3 and M4 share the same fanless aluminium chassis design established with the M2. The fanless architecture is what defines the repair profile here: there is no active cooling, which means sustained heavy workloads (video export, gaming) can thermally stress the logic board over time — though at under 2 years old, we're not seeing board failures from thermal stress yet. What we do see is drop damage: cracked Liquid Retina display assemblies from desk falls and bag compressions, and dented aluminium chassis corners. The Liquid Retina LCD (not OLED, not ProMotion) is a laminated assembly — no glass-only option. Battery replacement on M3 Air (now 14 months old) is not yet common, but the first heavy-use units are arriving. The M4 Air (March 2025) is too fresh for anything beyond drop damage. MagSafe port on these gens is the primary charging connector — lint clogs are the first thing we clean before suspecting port damage.
