Base iPad (7th–10th gen) uses a non-laminated screen — the front glass and digitiser sit as a separate layer, so a clean crack over a working display is often a glass-only job. iPad Air, iPad Pro and iPad Mini 6 and newer use a fully laminated display where the glass, digitiser and LCD/OLED are fused into one assembly bonded to a thin aluminium frame that bends easily — any crack means the whole assembly is replaced.
