  • Distinguish lens cover (cheap glass, easy fix) from camera module (more expensive part) — visual inspection on the bench.
  • Test all three rear cameras (wide, ultra-wide, telephoto on Pro) individually — narrows which module failed.
  • Check OIS by gentle phone shake — failed OIS rattles audibly when off.
  • Try Camera app force-restart and iOS reset — rules out software before quoting hardware.
Repair path

Counter-level: 1 hour typical for lens cover or single-module replacement. Lens cover only is the cheaper repair (often misdiagnosed as full camera replacement by other shops). Pro and Pro Max models have a 'camera can' housing that adds disassembly time. Workshop-level (Kepong HQ): camera-IC failures (rear camera not detected, no Camera app, post-water failure) move to component-level work for IC reflow. iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro tetra-prism telephoto module is more delicate than earlier zoom modules — we handle these carefully and quote separately. Not recoverable: rare cases where multiple camera ICs have failed (post-deep-water especially) sometimes need full logic-board work that exceeds the cost of a refurb of the same model — we tell you straight.

└─ Yes — we replace the telephoto module. Tetra-prism on 15 Pro / 16 Pro / 17 Pro is more delicate than older zoom modules and runs a slightly higher parts cost; we WhatsApp the quote before any work starts.
