Apple Watch is water-resistant when new, but that rating isn't permanent — it weakens with age, after a drop, a cracked crystal or a previous opening — so water, and especially salt water or sweat, can reach the board and start corroding it. We open the watch, disconnect the battery to kill any live short, strip the logic board and give it an ultrasonic cleaning bath plus targeted corrosion removal under a microscope, because the components are tiny and corrosion hides where a wipe can't reach. Salt and sweat leave conductive residue that keeps corroding, so a thorough clean matters more than just drying it out. Once clean we test the sensors, speaker, charging and screen, and replace anything the water killed. Then we re-seal the watch and pressure-test where possible — though, as with any opened watch, original factory water-resistance can't be guaranteed afterward.
