The dominant failure pattern is the flex cable assembly that runs through the hinge, which carries display, touch, camera, speaker and microphone signals between the two halves of the device. When the flex wears at the fold point, the failure shows up across multiple subsystems, not just the screen: inner screen blackout, half display dead, touch fail on one side, flicker on open/close, front or inner camera not working, one speaker silent or distorted, microphone cutting out on one half, and intermittent fast-charge that correlates with opening and closing the phone. All point back to the same flex assembly. The second repair path is full inner display assembly replacement, used when the inner display layer has physical damage — burst panel from impact, dead OLED lines, severe crease wear that's getting worse.
