Why iPhone won't power on.

Before repair, we narrow the cause. These are the most common root causes we see — some are cheap fixes, some need board-level work.

Battery fully dead or faulty
Battery fully dead or faultyMost common case — just needs a battery replacement. 30–45 minutes at any branch.
2/5
Charging flex / port damaged
Charging flex / port damagedPhone won't wake because it can't draw power. Port cleaning or flex swap resolves it.

iPhone failing to turn on can be caused by a depleted or faulty battery, a damaged charging flex, a failed tristar IC, or a deeper logic board fault. At SPR we start with free diagnosis at any of 16 branches — most cases are resolved with battery or flex work at branch level in 1–2 hours. Board-level no-boot cases are referred to our Kepong HQ for chip-level diagnosis, typically returned within 24 hours.

Won't Turn On · what it looks like
  • Completely dead — black screen, no vibration, no Apple logo, nothing when you press the buttons or put it on charge.
  • Stuck on the Apple logo, or looping — logo on, off, on again — without ever reaching the home screen (a boot loop).
  • Only shows signs of life when plugged in, and dies the moment you unplug — usually a failed battery, sometimes a charging fault.
  • It went dead after a drop or a liquid spill rather than gradually — this points to board-level damage rather than a simply worn battery.
  • It gets hot near the camera / logic-board area on the charger but never boots — a possible short drawing current.
What we check first
  • Try a force-restart for your model (e.g. on Face ID models: press volume up, press volume down, then hold the side button) — this rules out a software freeze before any hardware work.
  • Charge for 15–30 minutes on a known-good cable and adapter, then try again — a deeply drained battery can look completely dead.
  • Note whether anything happens on the charger at all — a faint logo, some heat, or a single vibrate narrows it to battery vs charging vs board.
  • Recall what happened just before it died — a drop, a spill, a battery that had been weak, or it just died overnight — each points somewhere different.
Repair path

1–24 hours depending on the cause, and the free diagnosis is the whole point — 'won't turn on' has very different fixes at very different costs, so we isolate the cause before quoting. First we rule out software with a force-restart and, if needed, a DFU restore. Then we test the battery and the charging path: a dead or pre-failure battery is a counter-level swap, and a faulty charging port or charging IC is a port-level repair. If power is reaching the board but it still won't boot, we move to board-level diagnosis at our Kepong HQ — measuring current draw to find a short, a failed power-management IC, or impact / liquid damage to a rail, repaired by micro-soldering. Boot loops can be software (a restore) or a hardware fault feeding a kernel panic, and we separate the two before touching the board. The honest part: a battery or port fix is quick and affordable, while a board-level no-boot is more involved and we can't promise it sight-unseen — we tell you which bucket yours is in after the free diagnosis, so you decide with the real cost in front of you.

  • Exactly what it does — fully dead, an Apple-logo loop, or only on while charging.
  • Whether it was dropped or got wet before it died.
  • Whether it had any warning signs first (a weak battery, random shutdowns).
  • The iPhone model and whether anything happens at all on the charger.

Questions

Before you walk in.

Q.01My iPhone is completely dead — is it the battery or the logic board?

That's exactly what the free diagnosis answers, and the two are very different repairs. A dead or pre-failure battery is a quick, affordable counter swap; a logic-board fault is a more involved board-level repair. We charge it on a known-good setup, test the battery and the charging path, and only move to the board if power isn't getting through — so you're never quoted a board repair when a battery would do.

Q.02It's stuck on the Apple logo and keeps restarting — can you fix it without wiping my data?

Often yes. A boot loop is sometimes software, which a DFU restore can fix while preserving data where possible, and sometimes a hardware fault feeding a kernel panic. We diagnose which it is first. If it's hardware (common after a drop or spill), we repair at board level. We always tell you upfront whether your data is likely recoverable before doing anything irreversible.

Q.03My iPhone only turns on when it's plugged in — what's wrong?

Usually a failed battery that can no longer hold a charge under load, which is a straightforward replacement. Sometimes it's a charging fault that only delivers enough power to run while connected. We test both during the free diagnosis and quote the actual cause rather than guessing.

Q.04Where can I get iphone not turning on / no-boot repair near me in KL or Selangor?

SPR has 16 walk-in branches across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor — Kepong, Uptown Damansara, Puchong Kenari, Sri Petaling, Taman Segar, Setapak, Mahkota Cheras, Pandan Indah, Ampang, Mid Valley, IOI City Mall, Sungai Wang, Maluri, Equine Park, Taipan USJ, and Kuchai Lama. Walk into any branch — no appointment needed — or WhatsApp us a photo of your iPhone first to confirm parts at the branch nearest you.

Q.05How long does iphone not turning on / no-boot repair take?

Typically 1–24 hr at any of our 16 branches. Walk in without an appointment, or WhatsApp us your model to confirm stock first.

Q.06Which iPhone models are covered?

All iPhone models: iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd gen), iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 series including all Pro, Pro Max, Plus, and Mini variants. Older iPhones (X, XR, XS, 8, 7, 6s) supported on a parts-availability basis at most branches.

Q.07What does iphone not turning on / no-boot repair cost in Malaysia?

Cost depends on the iPhone model and the parts tier you choose. We don't post fixed prices because every case is different. WhatsApp us a photo of the damage and the model and we send a free quote within minutes. No charge for diagnosis if you walk in.

Q.08Is SPR an Apple Authorised Service Provider?

No — SPR is independent. We're not Apple, not an Apple Authorised Service Provider, and we don't claim to be. We've been repairing Apple devices for 17 years across 16 branches in KL and Selangor. If you specifically want Apple-genuine parts and an Apple-issued service record, your only option is Apple's own out-of-warranty service. If you want fast same-day independent repair with a 6-month warranty at independent shop pricing, that's us.

Q.09What warranty do I get?

Every won't turn on at SPR comes with a 6-month warranty on parts and labour, honoured at all 16 branches across KL and Selangor — bring it to any SPR location for warranty work, not just the branch where the repair was done. Water-damage repairs carry a shorter warranty due to the unpredictable progression of corrosion.

Q.10What kind of replacement parts do you use?

OEM-grade parts as standard — manufactured to the same specifications as the originals. Premium-grade options are available on request for most models. We show you both tiers upfront so you can choose what fits. Apple does not sell parts to repair shops, so no independent shop in Malaysia can offer Apple-genuine parts; anyone claiming so is misleading.

Q.11Do you offer a free diagnosis?

Yes. Free diagnosis on walk-in at every branch. If we cannot repair your device, you pay nothing — no diagnostic fee, no consultation charge. Many fixes (lint cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning, software-only) cost nothing if that's all that's needed.
