Three rules in the first 30 minutes.

  1. Dry the outside, do not shake. Towel-dry the phone surface, the SIM tray, and the speaker grilles. Do not shake or hit the phone — that pushes water deeper into the board.
  2. Do not turn it on. Do not charge it. Powering up while moisture is inside causes shorts that turn a recoverable phone into a dead one. If it's already on, hold the power button to turn it off — don't wait for the screen to glitch.
  3. Do not put it in rice. Rice does nothing useful and the powder enters the ports. Ultrasonic board cleaning at SPR is the real fix.

Bring in same-day

Phone fell into water minutes or hours ago. The most important window is the first 24 hours: the longer water sits inside, the more corrosion forms on board components. Do not turn it on, do not charge it, do not put it in rice. Bring it in dry — every hour matters.

Often nothing if caught early — ultrasonic board cleaning preserves original components.

1 – 24 hr

Phone got wet, dried itself out, but now misbehaves — speaker muffled, microphone quiet, charging port refuses, screen flickers, Face ID broken, charging slower. Internal corrosion has started; ultrasonic board cleaning + targeted component swap usually resolves these.

What we replace
Speaker, microphone, charging port flex, Face ID assembly — whichever the corrosion has touched. Board itself is cleaned, not replaced.

Saltwater or chlorinated pool exposure

Same-day to 48 hr

Saltwater (sea, swimming pool with chlorine, sweat) is far more corrosive than tap water. Even a brief dunk can put salt residue across the entire board. Ultrasonic cleaning needs to remove every trace; otherwise corrosion continues invisibly for weeks after.

What we replace
Whatever the salt has eaten — common ones: charging port, microphone, side buttons, sometimes wifi / cellular antenna.
Common on
Beach drops at Port Dickson / Pangkor / Langkawi, hotel pool drops, gym sweat soak.
Notes
Saltwater jobs need extra cleaning passes. We're upfront if a single pass won't do — usually a 24–48 hour bench job vs. a 1–2 hour fresh-water job.

Service refused — water damage indicator triggered

Same-day to 48 hr

Apple Store or manufacturer service centre refused warranty repair because the water-damage indicator (the small red dot in the SIM tray) was triggered. SPR has no warranty constraint here — we open, clean, and repair regardless of the indicator state.

How much does water damage repair cost?+
Pricing depends on three things: (1) how long the phone was wet, (2) what kind of water (fresh, salt, chlorinated, sweat), (3) which components corroded. Free in-branch diagnosis under microscope tells us what's actually damaged before any quote. No fix, no charge — if we can't recover the phone, you don't pay for the attempt.
Is rice or silica gel actually a good idea?+
No to rice — at best it removes some surface moisture, at worst rice powder or starch residue gets pulled into ports during drying. Silica gel is slightly better but still doesn't reach the moisture that's already inside next to the board. Neither stops the corrosion that's actively forming on the board metals while the phone sits drying. Professional ultrasonic cleaning of the board is the real fix.
Apple / Samsung refused warranty because the water indicator turned red — can you still help?+
Yes. The water-damage indicator (the small red dot inside the SIM tray, or near the charging port on Samsung) being triggered only voids manufacturer warranty — it doesn't change anything for SPR. We diagnose and repair the actual fault, not the indicator. Many of our water-damage customers come to us specifically after Apple Store turned them away.
How long does water damage repair take?+
Fresh fresh-water cases brought in same-day: often 1–4 hours of cleaning, then a quick component swap if needed. Saltwater or chlorinated-pool exposure: 24–48 hours due to extra cleaning passes. Long-exposure dead phones: up to a week, including diagnosis and parts ordering. We tell you realistic timing on the in-branch quote, not after.
What if my phone can't be saved — can you at least recover the photos?+
Yes — even when the phone itself is past saving, the storage chip is often still readable. We offer data recovery as a separate service: we extract photos, contacts, messages and other personal data and transfer them to your replacement phone or a USB drive. Quote based on phone state, transparent before any work. iPhone storage is integrated into the board, so success rate depends on board condition.
What's the difference between fresh water, saltwater, and pool water?+
Fresh water (toilet, sink, drinking water) is least corrosive — recovery odds high if brought in fast. Pool water (chlorine + chemicals) is more aggressive and leaves residues that need extra cleaning. Saltwater (sea, sweat soak) is the worst — salt continues to attack metal board components for days even after the phone dries. The route and timing differs for each; we tell you which case yours is.
Do you also repair water damage on AirPods, Apple Watch, and tablets?+
Yes. AirPods washed in laundry, Apple Watch worn into a hot tub, iPad caught in tropical rain — all repairable depending on time-since-exposure and water type. AirPods specifically: bring them in dry, do not charge, do not return them to the case. WhatsApp us the model and the situation for triage.
What warranty do I get on water damage repair?+
Water damage repairs carry a shorter warranty than standard repairs — typically 1 to 3 months on the specific repair we performed (e.g. charging port flex, speaker assembly), because corrosion can progress invisibly even after cleaning. We're transparent about this on quote. Standard 6-month warranty applies to any new parts we install during the repair (battery, screen, port flex).
